Third non-Google app topped 5 billion downloads on Google Play

Another application that is part of the Facebook ecosystem has crossed the important milestone of 5 billion downloads in the Google Play app store – Facebook Messenger.

Apart from the development of Google, only two more applications in the whole world managed to achieve such a result – the client of the social network Facebook itself, as well as the WhatsApp messenger, which at one time was bought by Facebook.

Overall, Facebook Messenger was the 14th app to join the Google Play 5 Billion Club, along with YouTube, Google Maps and Gmail.

Despite a lot of controversy, this milestone shows how much people rely on Facebook for communication. The company is now working to expand its “chat empire”, which will eventually allow all three Facebook messaging apps to work together – Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram.
